Welcome to the 4th world (you thought the 3rd one was poor?!)

Yes – used clothing is of value here.

No School Bus.  These kids don’t go to school because the government school that serves the settlement is several kilometers distant and there is no transportation.  We’re hoping to raise money to buy a used Jeepney ($6,000), which one of the men at the settlement would use to transport elementary and secondary students to from school.  The rest of the day he would use the Jeepney to earn a living in General Santos.  A Jeepney is a hand-made vehicle, diesel powered with seats for 10-12 and functions like a bus on a given route.  This is an excellent purchase for the settlement and badly needed.

Jeepney Sample.  The Jeepney pictured here is NOT in the Badjao Settlement... this picture was taken elsewhere in the Philippines.  It is the "standard" form of group transportation here.
