Housing

Stick Houses.  The Samals’ and Badjaos’ traditional houses are always built over the sea – they maintain these forms at the settlement – even though the building are built over land.

Seaside Risks.  The gorgeous setting belies harsh living conditions.... a single storm can do considerable damage here.

Main Street.  One of the main avenues – the settlement is 5 years old.  Everything in this shot was crafted from scrap lumber or woven form fronds harvested from the nearby trees (not necessarily on the Badjao property).

Sanitation Facilities.  One of four 4-seater “comfort rooms” serving 1,000 residents.

Water Wells.  One of the two water wells (right side) suitable only for washing.  Much of the underground water here is polluted.
