The Philippines.
Overview map showing migration from the Sulu Islands and the Southern tip
of the Zamboanga Peninsula. These areas are torn by war between
Muslim guerrillas and the Christian-backed government in Manila. The
Badjao People traditionally lived on boats and made their life from the
sea. However fishing in these waters has been destroyed by other
groups using everything from dynamite (which also destroyed the coral) to
high-tech fishing trawlers. Thus, the Badjao People are both war and
economic refugees.
